What's this site all about?
This site, hosted by the College of Information Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, records the construction of the Sunpu Castle Gate replica at Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha's Botanical Center. This gate is a gift from the people of Shizuoka, Japan, to the people of Omaha, Nebraska in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Omaha Sister Cities Association and the relationship of the two cities over the past forty years.
On September 21, the construction crew of 15 arrived from Japan to begin the process of reassembling the gate - which was initially constructed in Shizuoka. The construction involved the 15 volunteers from Japan and about a dozen Omaha volunteers each day from the 22nd to the 27th of September. The gate was formally dedicated at 2 pm on October 1st.
The finished gate in Omaha.
